Où et Quand?
These images are an observation of how the character and sexual identity of the Parisian female has been portrayed in cinema. Each represents a different female protagonist from films that consider the relationship between sex, love and happiness. I have siphoned the exploration of their identity into a single image, using the criteria of a standard passport photograph. (In order from top to bottom) Amélie (Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001) Séverine (Belle de Jour, Luis Buñuel, 1967) Nana (Vivre sa vie, Jean-Luc Godard, 1962) Satine (Moulin Rouge, Baz Luhrmann, 2001)
This series was made for the an the event 'The Cinema is Nicholas Ray', which featured in the programme for the 5th Glasgow Film Festival, 2009.
